UCP's Respitality program has been one of the longest-running and most successful programs of Family Support Services. It offers a well-deserved break to the parents of children with special needs from the constant challenges of child care. Parents may apply for a one- or two-night stay at a participating hotel here in Orange County. We can occasionally get hotels in San Diego County and Laughlin, Nevada. This "mini-vacation" weekend has meant so much to our families. It has really allowed them to rejuvenate and refresh themselves so that they can return to their families with a brighter outlook. Parents who are participating in the Respitality Program need to arrange their own child care for the time they will be away. Families may apply for a Respitality weekend once every 18 months. We currently allow families up to two Respitality weekends in order to ensure that everyone gets a chance to participate in this program. A recent letter from Kevin and Nicole Elder expressed this word of thanks...
Another writes... "My husband and I have been married for six years and have two beautiful boys. Our youngest son was diagnosed with Autism last year. We have been working endlessly to do all we can to help our son. We have been drained in every way: emotionally, mentally, physically and financially. We truly appreciated this opportunity."
Respitality
touches people from all walks of life throughout Orange County. From
two parent families to single parents to grandparents and others caring
for children with special needs, Respitality is a designed to revitalize
caregivers and offer a few precious hours of relaxation. Parents that
take care of themselves and their marriage are better able to handle
the challenges of raising a child who has special needs.
